April Lockhart
April Lockhart was born on July 4th, 1995. in seventh grade. She began playing guitar and taking piano classes, which ignited her interest in music writing. At the age of 12 April wrote her first song Different. The year she turned 14 was when she was devoted for a long period of time in creating song concepts and practicing the music she was playing. She began writing alongside her father and her dad in NY and LA within a short time. April started to include other subjects in the book, Take My Hand, for the people in her life who are struggling with disabilities, peer pressure or even suicidal thoughts. Lockhart has her own following and also works as an online lifestyle blogger for the well-known Ilia clean beauty brand. She was born with no left hand, and it is what makes her different. However, this isn't the only characteristic of her. As a result Lockhart's Instagram page isn't afraid to talk about her disability, but the focus isn't on her disability either. It's a reminder. It's crucial to understand that everyone has multiple faces. Our identities are varied and we're beyond our body. Lockhart has stated on video that she didn't want to be defined solely by her handicap. She doesn't wish to become an advocate for disabled people who only talks about disability. There are a lot of aspects to Lockhart. My daily life isn't directly affected by disability. I go about my regular, everyday life and find myself solutions for problems. But it's also a part of me and I feel it's important to talk about. Lockhart is a great example of how to stay going with self-acceptance. She admits that she has gone through phases of insecurity with her body, and also feeling uncomfortable in certain clothes which exposed her arms. The woman now puts on whatever clothes she wishes and shares pictures on Facebook in awe. Self-love, she says is a journey. It's hard to say if you'll ever reach the end. It's the same for everybody regardless of the level of insecurity. It is essential to be surrounded by those who are able to see the person you are.
