Anna Leigh Ashford

Annaleigh Amanda Ashford is an American actor, singer, and dancer. In her early Broadway role, she was in Wicked Legally Blonde Hair. As the character Essie In You Can't Take It With You she won the Tony Award. Annaleigh has worked on projects with award-winning directors, actors and producers throughout the course of her professional career. Ashford will be next in the role of Kumail Nanjiani on the Hulu limited series Welcome to Chippendales from creator Robert Siegel premiering on November 22. Ashford is currently working on the film of Searchlight Pictures' terror thriller Dust starring Sarah Paulson. It's also available on Hulu Original on Disney DTC. Ashford will return in 2023, and will be starring opposite Josh Groban at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in the revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. The group behind Hamilton producers Jeffrey Seller and director Thomas Kail is at the control of the show. Ashford's latest performance was Paula Jones on Ryan Murphy FX's American Crime Story Impeachment. The show is based on the nationwide scandal that involved Paula Jones Monica Lewinsky, and Linda Tripp. For two seasons, she was the main character of the hit show on CBS called B Positive. It was co-produced by Chuck Lorre with Marco Pennette. The show featured Linda Lavin as well as Hector Elizondo and Ben Vereen. Ashford is no stranger to Broadway. The role she played as Essie in You Can't Take It with You was a winner of the Tony Drama Desk Awards and Outer Critics Circle Awards. Sunday in the Park with George Wicked legally blonde and the character that was originally played by Lauren in Kinky Boots were among her other Broadway credits. Ashford is a native of Denver.
